CGLC activities

Between 1998 and 2008, the CGLC held competitions for pupils from German-Polish middle schools in Guben, Cottbus, Neuzelle and Frankfurt/O, as well as for secondary school students from Zielona Góra on knowledge of the ‘language of the neighbour’. Winners of the competition took part in the annual ‘Meeting in two languages’ organised by the CGLC at the PZ/UZ Raculka Horse Riding Centre between 1999 and 2009. The meetings were co-financed by the Polish-German Youth Cooperation - ‘Jugendwerk’.

From 2003 to 2012, every October, the CGLC organised ‘German Days’ in cooperation with the Spree-Neisse-Bober Euroregion, Zielona Góra City Hall, the Lubusz Theatre, the C. Norwid Library, kindergartens and schools.

Since 2013, the CGLC have been organising ‘German-Polish Days’. Cooperation with the above-mentioned institutions continues.

Since 2007 the ‘German-Polish Days’ have been inaugurated with a concert by the DPJO (Polish-German Youth Orchestra), which has been in existence since 1973.

Since 2016, the University of Zielona Góra – the CGLC together with the Musikschule of Frankfurt/O have held official patronage of the DPJO.

Thanks to a personal contact with the German artist and honorary citizen of the Town and Municipality of Czerwieńsk, Ms Erica Schirmer, the CGLC received a collection of so-called Black Cut-outs as a gift. These cut-outs, in the form of an exhibition, have been exhibited in several places in our province as well as in Zittau, Cottbus, Rothenburg and Frankfurt/O.

Cooperation with the S N B Euroregion resulted in contact between students from the UZ and the Brandenburgische Technische Universitaet Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU CS). The contact resulted in a joint project (2013-2018), thanks to which an exhibition: ‘Shaping a culture of remembrance on forced labour and the Holocaust as a cross-border task’ was created. The exhibition was shown, among others, in Cottbus, Berlin and Guben.

The CGLC has an ongoing cooperation with the Kiwanis Adsum Club in Zielona Góra. This club - for 15 years - has cooperated with the Kiwanis Club Frankfurt/O by organising a Cultural Day - Kulturtag - in both countries every year.

The CGLC cooperate with Europa Direct Guben, which in June 2021 invited a CGLC representative to a conference to mark the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good Neighbourhood and Friendly Cooperation between Poland and Germany.

Since 2016, a representative of the CGLC has participated in annual seminars organised by the Saxon Neighbouring Language Office /LANA/ in Goerlitz, Poland and Germany.

The CGLC has participated in several consecutive editions of the Polish-German Media Days organised by the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation.

The activities of CGLC are presented in more detail in publications in the Bulletin of the University of Zielona Góra.

In addition, CGLC employee publishes texts on Polish-German issues on the official website of the J. Turowicz Association of Tygodnik Powszechny Clubs. In 2020, among others, about the 30th anniversary of the signing of the agreement between the Republic of Poland and Germany, about the late journalist Joachim Trenkner, about Karl Dedecjusz and about Karolina Kuszyk's book entitled ‘’Poniemieckie’.
